Early Times Report

Srinagar, Mar 18: Three buildings of Mountain Research Centre for Field Crops (MRCFC) constituent unit of Agricultural University were illegally occupied by the police after the 'rioters' burnt down police post Qoimoh in south Kashmir's Kulgam district during 2010 summer uprising in Kashmir
If sources are to be believed three buildings of MRCFC were forcibly occupied by the police causing tremendous difficulties in carrying out research and other related activities of the internationally acknowledged 'imperial' institute.
Sources said that the police forces including Armed Police are using the institute since past six years while as the government has never bothered to impress upon the authorities to make them free for smooth functioning of the scientific research.
"The occupation of the farm premises by police forces has cleaned out the research ambiance of this internationally acknowledged site research station, criminals, accidental cases to and fro movements of one or other kind and plying of police and civil vehicles is infuriating the condensed atmosphere of the centre," reads the letter shot by Assistant Director Research MRCFC to IG Kashmir.
The letter which lies as a proof with 'Early Times' further reads that "it is such requested that some alternate location may kindly be looked for the police station and the armed police presently located at the centre enabling this office to run the research program in cool way".
According to varsity sources, In-charge police post Qoimoh broke open the lock of the building at 6. Pm and occupied it in an unauthorized manner.
They said he occupied another building forcibly for which he was asked to apply officially so that the matter is brought into the notice of the university authorities before starting operations in these buildings.
"He didn't listen to anyone and occupied the building by breaking its lock, since then the police post/SOG camp has been operating their activities from the constituent unit of SKUAST," sources added.
Sources said that MRCFC is considered as apex institute of Agricultural research wherein dozens of research programs are underway in collaboration with international institutes.
Sources said that the varsity unit has suffered huge losses due to the presence of the police post in its campus as the work culture of the unit gets affected drastically, routine criminal cases and day to day problems of the people they register in the police post has severally affected the smooth functioning of the unit," they said.
"SP Kulgam in response to the letter to DDC vide no. DDCK/ SKUAST/ 2015/16 /562-63 dated 23-04-2015has expressed inability of the police department to shift the police station from our research centre on the pleas as indicted in his aforementioned letter. It is in place to mention that this university has earlier several times taken up the matter with various concerned functionaries' of the district etc," reads another letter by ADR.
