Have not put any preconditions for Govt formation: Baig | After Madhav's snub, PDP softens stand | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Mar 18: Barely a few hours after BJP refused to accept any new demand from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and said it is not possible to form a government in Jammu and Kashmir based on conditions, the PDP softened its stand saying it has not put any pre-conditions for the government formation in the state. "We are not ready to accept any new demand. Whatever expectations are there, would be possibly fulfilled only after formation of a government," the BJP general secretary Ram Madhav told reporters in New Delhi. "It's not possible to form the government on conditions," he added. Madhav also said that the stalemate in government-formation in Jammu and Kashmir was not because of the BJP but due to the PDP. "The prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir is not because of us. After Mufti Saheb's death, PDP had to choose a leader for the chief minister's post," he said. Soon after Madhav hardened the stand PDP said that it has set no new conditions before the BJP over continuing the alliance and said that the two parties should remove the misunderstandings between them and resume consultations on government formation. "I cannot say with certainty whether the government will be formed or not. But as far as I know, Mehbooba Mufti has not set any new conditions before BJP to form the government again. She has asked the BJP to ensure the Agenda of Alliance is implemented if they formed the government," the senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig told a Srinagar based news agency. "I think there is misunderstanding between the two parties while having consultations on government formation. The two parties should take some time and resume the deliberations," he said. The PDP leader said that the two parties should not start giving statements against each other as that would widen the gaps between the two. "And giving statements against each other will give a bad impression in public. If PDP and BJP want to continue the alliance, then they should hold clear discussions, but not pin point one another," he said. He said that if the discussion does not reach any conclusion then both PDP and BJP must clear it before the people. "It is the obligation of both the parties not to keep people in suspense over government formation," the PDP leader said. Over the announcement of vacations of land by army at four places, Baig said that despite Governor rule in the state, the Central government is abiding by the common minimum programme set between PDP and BJP last year before entering into a coalition. "The credit for it goes to both PDP and BJP as they had mentioned it in Agenda of Alliance," he said. Meanwhile, sources said the decision of the Modi government not to return two power projects to J&K, at least not for now, had come in the way of the government formation. They said the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti during her one to one meet with BJP chief Amit Shah in New Delhi on Thursday had reportedly asked for written commitment on this issue. Sources said that BJP chief told the PDP president that return of power project s to the state could fuel such demands from other states and could open a Pandora's box and Centre for now is not in a position to accept the demand. "The PDP president was told that issues can be discussed after she assumes the office of the Chief Minister . Things can't be done with condition," said a source. |
