Worried over annoyance of Sharma brothers, Mir tries to appease second rung leaders | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 18: Cold shouldered by Sharma brothers following his stage sharing with former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, the worried JKPCC president GA Mir is approaching the second rung leaders of State Congress for appeasing them and consolidating his support. Unlike his earlier casual approach towards the lesser important party leaders, the PCC president is learnt to be personally contacting each and every activist and seeking support for strengthening the Congress party ahead of forthcoming Local Body and Panchayat elections. The unprecedented change in Mir's approach has come in wake of a recent meeting of the PCC office bearers, called by him at his residence in Jammu where no Congress leader, except Nawang Rigzin Jora and Shabir Ahmad Khan turned up. Despite prior information to all the PCC office bearers, the Congress leaders preferred to stay away. According to the sources in Congress circles, Mir has come to know that the meeting was abstained by Congress leaders in view of Sharma brothers (Sham Lal Sharma and Madan Lal Sharma) reservations against him following a recent public meeting at Khour. Despite the warning by Sharma brothers, the PCC president had attended that public meeting, which was organized by Tara Chand Sharma. Even as Mir sought to pacify Sharma brothers by explaining that he no option other than to attend the public meeting in the capacity of PCC president, the response was not affirmative, sources said. At the time, when Local Body and Panchayat elections are approaching nearer, annoyance of Sharma brothers is worrying the PCC president, who has now decided to personally approach the grass root level leaders and this suggestion was given to him by none but a close confident of the rival camp. However, the leaders being approached by Mir, are not believing him and reporting about their telephonic meetings to their circles to show their loyalty towards the respective camp, sources said and added that the prevailing situation is likely to further weaken the incumbent PCC chief in near future. |
