For power, BJP may compromise national interest in J&K | Army being made to vacate land | | ET Report Jammu, Mar 18: Reports emanating from Delhi and J&K Raj Bhawan are both frightening and disappointing. Reports suggest that certain vested interests in the political establishment in New Delhi and J&K are creating a situation which forces the Army to vacate certain lands which it has been using since decades for training purposes and military operations. Reports are frightening and disappointing because the Army is being pressurized to vacate certain lands at a time when the situation in Kashmir and other parts of the State has assumed alarming proportions and the dreaded ISIS terrorists and other terror operatives have intensified their subversive activities. The situation in Kashmir has turned extremely dangerous with ISIS, Lashkar, Jaish and Hizbul Mujahideen operatives waving the ISIS and Pakistani flags every Fridayin Srinagar and outside Srinagar and holding anti-India demonstrations. The Kashmiri separatists too have become very active. It was time to strengthen the security grid in the State and give a free hand to the Army to eliminate the scourge of terror and neutralize separatists of all varieties like Islamabad has been doing in certain restive parts of Pakistan to maintain territorial integrity, but it was not to be. Instead, the vested interests have perhaps planned to demoralize the armed forces and hamper military operations by forcing the Army to vacate certain pieces of land, which are considered vital for the national security. How else would one interpret what transpired on Thursday during the meeting between the State Governor, Army Commanders and certain bureaucrats? Report which emanated from the Raj Bhavan said: "After discussions it was agreed that the Northern Command Headquarters would hand over 16.30 acre of State land held by it adjoining the Jammu University campus, 212 acre at the Tatoo Grounds, Srinagar, 456.60 kanal at High Grounds, Anantnag, land held by it at lower Khurba Thang in Kargil to the State Government before March 31". It also said that the "Governor reviewed implementation of decisions taken in earlier civil-military liaison conferences in respect of all land matters relating to the Army". The vacation of such lands by the Army at this point in time will only send a wrong signal, but the BJP, which wants to enjoy power in the State, has nothing to do with the security-related issues. It could go to any extent to fulfill its insatiable lust for power and pelf. The BJP, which is in power at the Centre and ruling the State through the backdoor, could even hand over Dulhasti and Uri Power projects to the State Government, thus vindicating those in Kashmir who consider the NHPC-controlled power projects and Army "symbols of Indian imperialism". |
