JAMMU, Mar 18: Consumers, who are already up in arms over the alleged improper distribution of ration to them, are now confused if they would get wheat or flour. "As national food security act (NFSA) has been implemented in a haste, CAPD department has maintained that this Act also acts as a stumbling block in smooth distribution of ration across the state," official sources said. Sources said consumers in some Jammu areas had not got ration for the past two months while the condition was equally bad in other areas. Terming NFSA as anti-people, consumers have also held protests against it in some parts of Jammu. "As in the far-flung and hilly areas, people mainly depend on PDS ration, in its absence, they are facing a lot of hardships. They travel long distances to reach rations shops, but return homes empty handed," sources said. There was an urgent need to supply ration to remote areas of the state to save people from starvation, the sources added. Sources said the governor's advisors needed to pass instructions to CAPD department to take immediate steps for supplying ration to consumers. "Denial of ration amounts to violation article 21 of the Constitution of India as it clearly states that no one should be denied basic amenities like food and shelter," said advocate Ajay Sharma. Even sugar was not provided to consumers on the eve of Shivratri. A higher CAPD official said the strike had also crippled the functioning of the department. |
