Sarpanch booked for flood relief fraud | | | Saahil Suhail

Anantnag, Mar 18: Police in this southern district has registered a case against village head (Sarpanch) of Muniwar Village, who had fraudulently withdrawn huge amount meant for flood victims in nexus with banks. According to official sources, Sarpanch had also misled authorities by preparing a fake list of flood victims of the village. They said that Sarpanch identified as Mohd Ashraf Wani s/o Ghulam Nabi Wani alias Masrat Bilal has received twice the flood relief money. Official record accessed by village welfare committee reveals that wife, son and brother of the accused Sarpanch have too received flood relief money through their bank accounts fraudulently. Village welfare committee alleged that Sarpanch has also withdrawn huge amount 18 unknown people. "He (Sarpanch) has papered list of 78 flood affected families, however among them 18 aren't the residents of Muniwar Village. These 18 beneficiaries are bogus and fraud," Committee members told authorities after accessing the documents. They said that Sarpanch in nexus with authorities and banks have withdrawn flood relief money on the names of 25 such persons who don't belong to village. Tehsildar Anantnag, Ghulam Rasool Bhat told media that they have filed an application with police against the Sarpach for preparing a fake list of flood victims. "On our application, police has acted and registered a case against the village head for Cheating and fraudulently withdrawing the money," he said. He said that FIR 65/2016 U/S 420 was registered at Police Station Anantnag. Bhat said that process of recovering flood relief money from the Sarpanch has been started earlier. "We will not let him go so easily. All the money will be recovered," he added. Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Muneer-ul-Islam too assured fair probe into this scam. |
