Govt orderes closure of all schools up to 12th today | 27 families shifted to safer places in Kupwara amid 'landslides apprehension' | | S Tahir-ul Haq

Baramulla, Mar 18: Authorities on Friday shifted at least 27 families to safer places in Kupwara district after the locals apprehended triggering of landslides after recent incessant rains and hostile weather conditions prevailing in the Valley from the last three days. Sources told Early Times, "The administration has shifted fifteen families in Amroohi, Karnah to a government schools for their safety." Meanwhile a senior official said following apprehensions of landslides these families were immediately shifted to the safer places. "All the major roads including Tangdhar-Kupwara were closed while a major bridge in the area connecting the village with rest of the part was washed away as the water level in the Qazinag Nullah increased due to the continuous downpour from the past three days," the official said. An official said, "12 families in Chowhan Mohalla in Mori Kalaroosa have been shifted to safety in hilly Kalaroos area in the district after the residents to safer places." Meanwhile due to snowfall and incessant rains from past two days, government has ordered closure of schools in Gurez and Baramulla district of north Kashmir on March 19. A senior official said that due to heavy snowfall in Gurez area, all educational institutions will remain closed on March 19. As per government notification, the government has ordered closure of all educational institutions in Gurez area of north Kashmir's Bandipora district as the Gurez valley has received one foot fresh snow on Thursday. Vide order no: DCB/PS/5013 dated 18/3/2016, the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Yasha Mudgal has ordered closure of all educational institutions including all Government and Private Institutions up to Higher Secondary level on March 19 in district Baramulla. "The order has been issued as a precautionary measure for avoiding any untoward incident, the official said, adding, "an avalanche warning too has been issued and people have been asked to remain away from avalanche prone areas for today and tomorrow. |
