Shiv Sena tears into BJP for its contradictory approach | Debate on 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' slogan | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 18: The Shiv Sena, which has been questioning the concept of nationalism as preached by the BJP and criticizing its policy towards Pakistan and Kashmiri leaders, separatist and mainstream leaders included, has further hardened its stand on the BJP. It has charged the BJP with adopting contradictory approach towards AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi (Andhara Pradesh) and Hardik Patel (Gujarat) and demanded revocation of citizenship of all those who refuse to chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai slogan. In fact, Shiv Sena in its official mouthpiece, widely-read Saamana in Maharashtra, has editorially condemned the BJP and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and explained away its stand on Bharat Mata Ki Jai slogan. Launching a blistering attack on AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi for his refusal to chant "Bharat Mata Ki Jai", the Shiv Sena's organ has sought revocation of citizenship and voting rights of those who refuse to chant the slogan. It has also sought to know from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis how Owaisi was allowed to leave the State after he refused to chant the pro-India slogan. It needs to be underlined that RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat had only a couple of days ago said that the "new generation needs to be taught to chant slogans hailing mother India. Reacting to this statement of the RSS, provocative and controversial Owaisi had, at a public rally in Udgir tehsil of Latur district in Maharashtra, said: "I don't chant that slogan. What are you going to do, Bhagwat sahab." In a scathing editorial, the Shiv Sena said: "Hardik Patel had by mistake disrespected the national flag and he was tried for sedition and is still in jail. Has Asaduddin Owaisi not committed treason as well by insulting mother India? The citizenship and voting rights of all those who do not chant 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' should be revoked. There is a BJP Chief Minister in the State (Maharashtra). He has to answer how was Owaisi allowed to leave Latur after insulting the country". Very interestingly, two more very significant developments have taken place. One, the Congress, which is known more for its policy of appeasement, moved a resolution in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Wednesday demanding suspension of AIMIM MLA Waris Pathan from the House for full session on the ground that he refused to chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai slogan in the Assembly - a significant resolution which was supported by the BJP, the Shiv Sena and also the Nationalist Congress Party of Shard Pawar. The other was the press conference in New Delhi wherein Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi declared that the Congress stood for Bharat Mata Ki Jai slogan. It appears the Congress has realized that if it continued to follow the policy of appeasement for some more time, it would get completely decimated. The change in the stand of the Congress, which gave unstinted support to the JNU seditionists in a most shameless manner, only suggests so. It also suggests that if it has to compete with the BJP, it has to do something on the ground to establish that it respects the sentiments of the majority community. In any case, it is a welcome change subject to the condition that what the Congress did in Maharashtra will be replicated across the country, including the five poll-bound States of West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Pudduchery. |
