NC upset over Mehbooba's plan to form govt
3/18/2016 11:30:56 PM

If any political party in Jammu and Kashmir is upset over the plan of Mehbooba Mufti to form government in alliance with BJP, it is NC. The reason for NC to feel upset over Mehbooba's plan is quite apparent because it wanted the dissolution of Assembly followed by fresh elections. If she finally decideds to forge alliance with BJP for the purpose of government formation, it would mean that there was no scope for Governor N N Vohra to dissolve Assembly. That NC leadership is disturbed over reports indicating that Mehbooba plans to form government in alliance with BJP had become evident when the party had a severe dig at BJP over All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party chief Asaduddin Owaisi row. Omar Abdullah has asked if PDP president Mehbooba Mufti will be asked to chant 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' as a pre-condition for government formation in the state. Omar, who is working president of NC, wrote on micro-blogging site twitter -- Political tempers are running high after Owaisi said that he would never chant 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' even if a knife is put to his throat. Meanwhile, an AIMIM legislature was suspended from Maharashtra Assembly after he refused to chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai.This event Omar fully utilized for taking a dig on both BJP and PDP. His very question whether Mehbooba would be asked to chant Bharat Mata ki Jai before allowing her to head the coalition government clearly indicates what he wants to convey to PDP. When Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had stitched an alliance with BJP to form government, he was not told to chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai. Why would BJP leadership at the national level now ask Mehbooba to chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai? Well, Owaisi himself lifted the lid from the Pandora's Box otherwise he was not asked by anyone from BJP to chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai. He himself announced that he would never chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai even if he was threatened to be killed. If Omar is upset over reports that Mehbooba may lead the coalition government in alliance with BJP, he has a reason to feel so. NC had expected that delay on part of Mehbooba to form government would ultimately lead to the dissolution of Assembly. If the state had to face fresh elections, NC was expected to be a gainer in the valley and Congress in Jammu. Hence NC now feels that the government formation, whenever it takes place, would snatch from it the chance to perform better in polls. The Congress too may not be happy over the development because it also had hopes of improving its performance in the poll battle. Another worry on the part of Omar is that after Mehbooba forms government, she will be implementing various development schemes and people-friendly policies with the help of liberal financial assistance from the central government. This would allow her a chance to further consolidate her party's position in Kashmir and equally help BJP to strengthen its vote bank.
