Srinagar, Mar 18: A local court in Srinagar today sentenced an employee of R&B department to one-year rigorous imprisonment for forging his date of birth in the service book. Javaid Ahmad Qadri was found guilty by Additional Session Judge Srinagar, S R Gandhi, following a probe by the Vigilance Organization. He was found to have tempered the date of birth from 9 April 1957 to 9 April 1960. Working as establishment clerk in R&B 2nd division, Javaid remained posted up to 1996, and as per practice, the service book of the officials used to remain in the custody of such clerks. The court observed that Javaid had the access to his service book. "Except the accused, no other person could have been benefited by the forgery in the service book in as much as the service of the accused could have been extended by three years." Accordingly, the court had convicted Javaid of offences under RPC Sections of 467 and 468 . "The convict has not derived any benefit by committing the forgery and in view of the aggravating and mitigating factors, I am of the considered opinion that it is not a fit case to impose maximum punishment," the court said and sentenced him to undergo one year and the fine of Rs 10000. In case of the default of payment of fine, the court ordered that he shall undergo three months of imprisonment. |
