| Sorry state of GMC Jammu | | | Mahadeep Singh Jamwal
The GMC Jammu presently a life line for all the patients' referred from all over the provincial district level hospitals. The patients arriving from different districts are taken to emergency wing of the hospital and the attendants feel bit relieved when they enter the hall of the emergency wing. But in the hall they are met with such a situation, that they curse them self for bringing the patient to this air conditioned dumping space of live patients. The patients are put on trolleys and are lined up with the wall and then attendants have to run for doctor as they cannot be recognized among large gathering of patients and attendants. They all roam in civvies and without any apron or name plate, the identity of the doctor. Ultimately one rushes to a room supposed to be of causality medical officer for obtaining the services of a doctor, where he find the CMO busy on attending telephone for most of the time and surrounded by huge gathering of attendants to know the whereabouts of the doctor. Ultimately one reply comes from CMO to all to locate the medical officer in the hall. One has to run from one place to other to locate the medical officer and sometimes he is found taking tea along with colleagues in GMC canteen. On the availability of the medical officer, the patient is examined, but one surprise, when he finds that the examining doctor is a very junior doctor even junior and not so experienced than the referring doctor from the districts. In rare cases senior doctors are called and they come to the emergency as per their leisure. The experience meted out personally is the basis for penning down these lines when I remained in GMC throughout the day on 3rd June as my brother was brought to emergency of GMC as a serious case of multiple problems.
One very bad situation which every attendant faces is the waiting space. The medical authorities have provided a plastic sheet laid shed as waiting space of approximately 15 square feet provided with plastic seats mounted on iron frames. To the utter surprise almost all plastic seats have become unable to sit upon and many have banished and only frame is visible which is posing threat of injuries to the attendants who try to cross among them. Finding the ugly and insulting sitting arrangement for attendants, it reminded me of the photographic session of present BJP Health Minister, who immediately after taking over as minister was found posing with doctors carrying brooms to show his concern of 'Swash Bharat Abhiyan' rather to take first hand information of the hospital condition, brooming neat and clean approach road to emergency entrance. How this ugly sitting arrangement was overlooked and not taken care speaks of ministers concern about patient and attendant care. The situation faced by me was posted on FB on 3rd of May, to attract the people by a question mark of tolerating such ministers by the people of Jammu and ministers attention, who himself post many pictures of his working on FB. In response number of FB users commented and I would like to share some of them for the greater public attention exactly in the form they are preserved in my phone. The names of such commentators have been kept away.
n Jammu people tolerate every Tom, Dick and Harry, if he is minister, even a donkey if he is minister. The minister cannot run this show….. GMC is a hospital where nothing is in order.
n The Jammu hospital is only for practice station for junior doctors.
n GMC means government Medical College and meant for student doctors. Senior doctors appear only occasionally or attend OPD. Emergency is completely handed over to juniors on internship. Our health minister just poses for the photographs to advertise their works towards 'Swatch Bharat Abhiyan' which is merely a hoax and can be done easily by just ordering concerned employees strictly.
n Knowing the plight of GMC despite it being a premier hospital of Jammu division, Jammu people raise voice for AIIMS so that better medical facility are available to them especially when the administration will be in the hands of centrally appointed people. (The message conveyed speaks that what is fun of claiming AIIMS when the already available GMC, a premier institute is in bad condition).
n Minister is busy in improving the conditions of wash rooms but unfortunately he was trying to make fool of all the people of Jammu. He has uploaded photos of washrooms but he was trying to convince us that the condition of washrooms has improved. So how can you expect from such minister that he will improve the condition of GMC?
n This is what all the ministers of BJP are trying to do nowadays. Fooling others is their business now.
n The state government might be busy in its photo-shoots and fabricated press conferences .The state government seems to have forgotten about the health sector in the state, which otherwise should have been its first priority, the reality on the ground is beyond shocking.
n The health sector in our state is a big zero. Who bothers? Life in our country is very cheap. (From a gazette retired officer of state presently settled in Pune, Maharashtra)
n Public keep on crying who bothers and I am sure it will never improve because our mind set is like that.
n It looks forest minister will help by providing timber for benches. It conveys that Earlier health minister was somehow better)
n When state government failed to discharge its legitimate duties of providing neat and clean health facilities, It should keep in view good records of AIIMS Delhi, only then best results are expected. The worst condition of GMC has not deteriorated in a day.
n 'Jise Bemar Hona Ho GMC Chala Jaey'
The comments from different sections of society are clear indicator that our GMC is not in good books of the people and their concern is required to be taken as wakeup call by the concerned minister and administration of GMC. The minister should pay some attention to burning problems of patients and attendants with regard to due care of patients by ensuring availability of the senior doctors and junior doctors more dedication and a system should be developed that attendants may not have to run for locating medical officer in emergency and wearing of prescribed dress for doctors is must as to identify him among attendants and patients.
The waiting space for attendants just outside the emergency, require immediate attention of Superintendant of GMC for its improvement as the attendants are more sufferer than patients as they are treated by un-cultured, uneducated and shabby security guards in a more un-civilized manner. Their role becomes that of a martial of Parliament when some senior doctor visit the emergency and they misbehave and man handle the attendants and drag them out physically as some President of a nation had arrived and the doctor only smiles on the behavior of the security guards.
As a senior citizen I pose few questions to the 25 BJP MLAS and ministers from them that;
n Are you literate enough to find out solutions for the problems of the people?
n Have you analyzed that you have won the elections riding on Modi jee, whereas have you any quality or public base to win it at your own?
n Why you fail to visualize the burning problems being faced by common people in general and in GMC particular?
n You have been targeting earlier government on even minor issues and bringing sufferings for people by calling Bandhs and shut downs. Are you now in hibernation? What had made you to befool the people by hollow slogans and buttery promises?
n Have you assessed that you have been thrown out from the liking pad of people and you are cursed by even a common man for the sufferings in the shape of tax burdens, inflations, sky high prices of essential day to day consumable items?
n How for you agree with the remarks of Lallu jee in Bihar elections that BJP is 'Bharat Jalao Party' as many people whisper with same meaning of BJP, although openly people dare not due to fear of individual attacks of saffron brigade.
Lastly I will suggest the representatives of the people to come out from the shallow dreams of remaining ever in power and introspect and deliver something to the expectations of the people, otherwise and ultimately they will banish like Dinosaur, who were once all powerful during Triassic period. |
