Early Times Report

Jammu, June 5: The State Vigilance Organization (SVO) is allegedly going very slow on the complaints of corruption against police officers, who are departmentally their colleagues.
The enquiries , therefore, go on fir years together.
In response to an RTI application, the State Vigilance Organization has furnished a list of 77 police officers in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and a single complaint against police officer in 2015.
The involved officers are two additional Superintendent of Police, one AIG (P) and rest of involved officials are Assistant Sub inspectors posted in various areas of state, against whom complaints were filed years' back but enquiries were still uncompleted, consequently challans were not produced.
Complaints were registered against the two ASPs in year 2012 and 2015, while complaint against AIG was registered in the year 2012.
As per the list, the officers against whom complaints are pending, two are Additional Superintendent of Police posted in Jammu province while other officer is ADO presently posted in Jammu and an AIG, who is also posted in Jammu.
The remaining 73 officers against whom cases are pending are of the rank of Assistant Sub Inspectors and were posted in various areas of state.
Complaints were registered against 25 Assistant Sub Inspectors in the year 2010 while in the year 2011, complaints were registered against 27 ASIs, while in the year 2012 complaints were registered against 20 ASIs.
The Vigilance Organization has so far failed to complete the enquiry, sources said, alleging that it was a deliberate attempt on part of Organization, which is reluctant to take action against the police officers, who are otherwise close to them.
"The watchdog agencies are supposed to be working in impartial way but the status of enquiry reports against police officers, only foretelling that they are reluctant to take action against officers of their sister organizations", the RTI activist alleged.
