Kashmir gets Rs 600 Cr, Jammu Rs 100 Cr | Macdamization of Roads | | Asif Iqbal Naik
Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 5: In yet another instance of BJP ministers and legislators acting as mute spectators towards discrimination being meted out to Jammu, the government has spent Rs 600 Crore on macdamization of roads in Kashmir, while Rs 100 Crore have been spent for the same purpose in Jammu region. This fact was brought to fore by the MLA Inderwal and senior Congress leader Ghulam Mohammad Saroori in the Legislative Assembly recently. Speaking in LA, Saroori accused the government of bias towards Jammu region, including Doda and Kishtwar. "The present government has so far spent Rs 600 Crore for macadamization of roads in Kashmir province as compared to Jammu region where a little bit over 100 Crore has been spent on macdamization of roads." He also demanded equal share from the government towards developmental works and further demanded construction of alternative National Highway 244 from Batote Zig via Bumalpura, Upper Khilani, Bhela, Phigsoo, Drab Agral, Shalimar to Kishtwar and said that this alternative road would not only reduce the distance between Batote to Kishtwar, but would also save the cost of construction of new tunnel. "Present National Highway is sinking at rapid speed," he added. After Saroori highlighted the issue, the BJP MLA from Kathua Rajv Jasrotia woke up from deep slumber and also showed his concern over disparity towards Jammu and expressed dismay over discrimination being faced by Jammu region despite BJP being in power. Congress MLAs were later joined by BJP legislators, who felt embarrassed, after Saroori drove home his point. They condemned alleged discrimination by the government in terms of macdamization of roads. They rued that Kashmir got six times more allocation than Jammu for the purpose. |
