Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Jun 5: Change of guard in the state seems to be making very little difference on the ground in the health sector with violators continuing to flout rules and regulations. Same has happened in the case of a leading private hospital in the summer capital of the state.
Classic Hospital located in the Hyderpora area on the bye-pass has been flouting rules and regulations. Despite having knowledge of the same, the authorities have so far failed to act against the owners of this private hospital.
Responding to an RTI application moved by Abdul Rashid Khan, Dr. Anjum Afshan, Public Information Officer (PIO) Directorate of Health Services Kashmir said that a team of the Directorate visited M/S Classic Hospital, Hyderpora on 21-11-2015.
The PIO said that there are many deficiencies at the hospital and these need to be rectified before re-inspection of the hospital could be undertaken.
"No proper building permission has been obtained from the concerned authorities. In the post operative ward there are no emergency drugs at Nurses Station. The cleanliness is very poor and instead of general nurse the duties are being discharged by Female Multi-Purpose Health Worker (FMPHW)," wrote Dr. Anjum in the RTI reply.
The PIO said that in the theatre the cleanliness is poor with doubtful measures of anti-sepsis.
She said that the theatre lights are covered with dust and no positive pressure is available in the operation theatre.
She wrote that the person who was operating Autoclave section was not aware of the temperature and pressure required for Autoclaving adding that taps of scrubbing sinks were dysfunctional and rusty.
"Labour room was in total mess. No equipment was found in labour room at the time of visit. Linen of labour bed was contaminated with blood and dust at the time of visit. In the laboratory blood contaminated syringes were not disinfected with 4 percent sodium hypo-chloride prior to disposal. No proper segregation of BMW was done at the laboratory," wrote Dr. Anjum.
The PIO said that the pharmacy is running without a license adding that the X-Ray room is low in space. She said that thyroid shields, gonadal shields and abdomen shields were not available at the time of visit.
She said that door was not leaded at the time of visit and that the dose monitoring for radiation exposure for operators was not available as well.
"The hospital building has been constructed adjacent to 132 KV double circuit CSTL service. The USG machine has already been sealed by NIMC team while as no ramp and lift was in place," wrote Dr. Anjum in the RTI reply.
It would be in place to mention here that this is not for the first time that Classic Hospital is in the news for the wrong reasons.
In the past complaints have been registered against this private hospital with former health ministers owing allegiance to Congress allegedly receiving huge sum for legalizing the wrongs at this health institution.
It remains to be seen whether any action would be taken this time around or the past would be repeated.
