Bhandari's appointment divides SKIMS Staff | Doctors boycott meet, Employees seek probe into scams | | Javaid Naikoo Early Times Report Srinagar, June 5: The appointment of In-charge Director SKIMS, Srinagar, has triggered a new controversy as Doctors stayed away from introductory meet and Non-Gazetted employees sought probe into scams. After retirement of former Director SKIMS, state government had on Friday nominated Mandeep Bhandari, Commissioner Secretary Health and Medical Education as interim Director SKIMS till the appointment of a new director for the institute. However according to sources his appointment has created a dividen among Doctors and non Gazzeted employees of institute after Non Gazzeted employees sought probe into scams which had surfaced over the years in the Institute On one hand doctors of the premier institute had on Saturday announced to boycott meetings with interim Director after terming his appointment in violation of norms. While on the other hand non-gazetted employees claimed that Doctors hesitated to meet the Director as he could order probe into scams that had surfaced in the institute over the years. President Government Employees Conference, Ishtiyaq Beg told Early Times said that they were hopeful that appointment of Mandeep Bhandari as Director SKIMS would add a new life in prevailing corrupt system in the institute. Non- Gazetted Employees Welfare Association said that doctors in SKIMS should not hesitate in meeting with the in-charge director and providing medical care to common masses as per necessity. Doctors as per sources are questioning Bandari's appointment. "Doctors had projected one among their colleagues to head SKIMS as Incharge Director till the appointment of a new Director"Sources said. The appointment of new Director as per sources is due by the end of this month as shortlisted Doctors for the appointment of new Director are all set to face interview on 11 and 12 of this Month. Meanwhile despite repeated attempts no contact could be made with Minister for Health and Medical Education, Bali Bhagat for his comments on the issue. |
