Ammunition depots located in J&K are safe, Defence spokesman | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 5: Declaring that all ammunition depots located in Jammu and Kashmir are safe, a Defence Ministry spokesman today said regular safety audits are being undertaken and latest was ordered on June 2, 2016. Defence ministry spokesman S D Goswami issued the statement following apprehensions expressed by former chief minister Omar Abdullah and others after recent incident in an ammunition depot at Mumbai. He said ''the Army is sensitive to the issue of safety measures in ammunition depots located in Jammu and Kashmir. Regular safety audits are undertaken and the latest one has been ordered on June 2 2016.'' He said some media reports have emerged raising questions on deficiency of essential fire fighting equipment. These reports are incorrect. Adequate fire fighting equipment and measures are in place. Modern equipment is being regularly procured to upgrade safety measures. Fire services staff is completely rehearsed in their role. He said the Army places the highest priority on safety of civilians living in the vicinity of ammunition depots. All measures are being taken to ensure the highest standards of security. |
