HC asks Govt to consider reducing bag weight of school goers | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, June 5: A division bench of the high court has directed government to take a decision within three months on a representation, seeking a policy decision to lessen school bag weight of the school going children in the state. "The appropriate decision in the matter has to be taken by the government alone," said a division bench of Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice D S Thakur while disposing of a PIL. The court directed government through the education secretary to consider within three months the petitioner's representation. The petitioner has suggested that government should provide locker facilities to all the students so that they could keep textbooks in schools. He also suggested government to ensure that potable water was made available to children in all schools "so that they don't have to carry water bottles along." He said medically recommended weight of school bag was less than 10 per cent of the student's bodyweight.(JNF) |
