People demand possession of allotted plots 6/6/2016 12:15:42 AM Early Times Report Kathua, June 5: It has been more than four years of time period when Social Welfare Department had allotted 20 kanals land bearing Khasra no 1268 at Taraf Manjili Hiranagar to 55 weaker families i.e 5 marlas to each, under order no. DSWO/K/21 of 2012 dated 9-2-1012 but till date the order has not been implemented. Sources told Early times that the District Social Welfare Officer Kathua (member secy) passed strict instruction to Tehsil social welfare Officer Hiranagar/ Kathua to measure the plots and handover possession to the concerned but same has not been done till date and land has been grabbed by nomads of particular community who now refused to vacate the land. After several appeals to concerned officers including of Revenue officers, no action has been taken till day in this regard that today that triggered resentment among actual beneficiaries. Their patience today burst out and they staged huge protest demonstration outside of DDC office Kathua and demanded possession of such land besides action against tainted officers of Revenue department who allegedly back the encroachment. Sham Lal, a beneficiary disclosed the failures of both social welfare and Revenue officer who could not retrieve such land after several reminders. He said they called on politicians, bureaucrats and social organizations for possession of such alloted land but nobody gave patient hear to their demand. He informed that the land has been grabbed by particular nomads community who threatened the actual beneficiaries for dare consequences when they step down on allotted land. When contacted DDC Kathua, he assured to deal the matter seriously and set up a committee to verify the actual position of the case at ground level.
