Environmental violation in Gulmarg rocks Assembly

Srinagar, June 7: Senior Congress Leader and MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori today showed great resentment over the growing environmental violation in tourist destination Gulmarg by the Hotel Khyber and Hotel Zangeer added that the green trees surrounding these two hotels are drying up at rapid pace and demanded setting up of a committee to look into the issue. Saroori while referring to the news item published by the Early Times in its 6-6-16 edition highlighted the environmental hazards and concern showed by the people over drying of green trees around these hostels situated in Eco fragile Zone of Gulmarg where reports allege that the hotel owners are putting some chemicals on these trees with aim to make these trees dry and later to encroached over the area by using its political and officials influence.
Saroori said that he too visited the area as a chairman of the Legislative Committee on Environment and found that trees are drying up around these hotels which need to be looked into.
CPI MLA M Y Tarigami also raise the issue of illegal construction going on in another Eco Fragile Zone of Sonamarg added that despite repeated assurances and the directions issued by the house to implement several reports submitted by the committees are gathering dust and demanded immediate attention of the government towards this issue of great public importance.
When contacted Forest Minister assured to look into the matter added that no one whether rich or poor will not be allowed to play with the environment of the state.
It is pertinent to mention that hundreds of green deodar are drying up in Gulmarg tourist resort, particularly around hotel Khyber and Hotel Zangeer under mysterious circumstances allegedly due to spray of some mysterious chemicals on these trees as the Forest officials in world renowned tourist resort are sleeping over the violations from the hotel owners including those hotels known worldwide thus not only polluting the atmosphere of world famous tourist resort, but also makes the area vulnerable to environmental hazards which need to be looked before it was too late.
In addition, the people also informed that the waste material from several hotels including human excretion has been openly thrown into the open area disturbing the fresh environment. The people also rued the permission given to some telecom companies for digging the road end so as to lay the optical cable underground added that these telecom companies are digging the road downside as a result of which there are apprehension of damages to road by way of collapsing of Brest walls of the road as in rainy and Snow season; the water get absorbed into the trenches digged by telecom operators. They demanded that telecom operators will be asked to underground its cabling on mountain side so that road could be prevented from damages.
