Rs 3.66 cr wasted as e-studio remains defunct at SKUAST-J | | | Jehangir Rashid

SRINAGAR, June 7: An amount of more than three and half crores has gone down the drain since the state government has failed to carry out necessary repairs of the e-studio established at the campus of Sher-I-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu. Replying to a question posed by Surinder Kumar Choudhary in legislative council today, Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Lone (Hanjura) said that the e-studio was inaugurated by Director General, Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) on 4-8-2007. The minister said that an expenditure of Rs. 366.87 lakhs has been incurred for the establishment of e-learning studio and e-kiosks at SKUAST, Jammu. "The studio at present is not functional. A committee has been constituted by SKUAST Jammu vide number AUJ/Est.G-414/15-16/4536-42 dated 30-11-2005 for ascertaining the reason for non-functioning of e-kiosks etc. Report of the Committee is awaited. SKUAST-Jammu has been asked to submit findings immediately," said Lone. The Minister for Agriculture said that after the submission of the fact finding report by the constituted committee referred above, the university will proceed accordingly in the matter. He said the computers purchased for this purpose were installed at Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs)/regional stations, university main campus and some government offices. In his supplementary the Member of Legislative Council said that the e-studio got closed down only after three years of its inauguration. He said the studio that was inaugurated in 2007 got closed down in 2010. He said the committee formed to probe the matter has finished its job and that the e-studio was start functioning once again soon. On this the Minister for Agriculture said that the report of the committee has not reached the government. He said that necessary action would be taken once the report reaches the department. He assured the member that the government would not sit back and ensure that the e-studio resumes its functioning soon. MLC Naresh Kumar Gupta raised a supplementary and expressed his unhappiness as well as disappointment over the non-accountability of the staff posted at KVK Bhaderwah. The member said that the staff is not present there at the Kendra and as such the purpose of setting up the KVK has been lost. He urged the government to act fast in the matter so that the benefits of KVK reach the farming community of the Bhaderwah area. The minister replied that the matter would be looked into and the functioning of KVK Bhaderwah would be regulated. He said stern action would be taken against the staff if it is found that they are not present there more so at the time of need of the farmers. |
