Pak interferes in India's internal affairs
White paper on J&K demography
6/7/2016 11:29:32 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 7: Pakistan on Tuesday interfered in the internal affairs of India and leveled a wild charge against New Delhi that it was changing Kashmir's demography. "Pakistan is not unaware of Indian efforts to integrate Kashmir (into India) and change its demography as 'such efforts by India' would not succeed," Pakistan's Adviser on Foreign Affairs to Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif, Sartaj Aziz, said at Islamabad while talking to news channel.
What Aziz said was a spurious charge and it was levelled after India told Pakistan that New Delhi will only talk about POJK and Gilgit-Baltistan when meeting between the two countries took place and there will be no discussion on this part of Jammu and Kashmir.
On June 4, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had told his audience in Pathankot (Punjab) that India will not discuss Kashmir with Pakistan, as this part of Jammu and Kashmir was an integral part of India and that whenever India and Pakistan meet, the talks would be only on POJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, which were part of the State of Jammu and Kashmir on and before August 15, 1947.
The charge of Pakistan that India was changing Kashmir's demography was as spurious and ill-designed as it was ill-intentioned. Pakistan simply sided with the communal forces in Kashmir as represented by Hurriyat leadership, the National Conference, the Congress and similar other Kashmir-based outfits. All these outfits have unleashed a no holds barred campaign in Kashmir to convince the Kashmiri Muslims that New Delhi, in collaboration with the PDP-led coalition government, have planned to change Kashmir's demography by setting up sainik colonies and Kashmiri Hindu townships in the Valley. Their opposition has exposed their anti-Hindu credentials in the sense that Kashmiri Hindus are the original inhabitants of Kashmir and not from Geelani or other central Asian countries and the proposed sainik colony, if at all set up in the Valley, will exclusively for state-subject ex-soldiers.
The truth is that it is Pakistan which has completely changed the demography of Gilgit-Baltistan and converted this region from Shia-dominated region into Sunni-Pathan dominated region. Besides, it has also changed the political scene of the POJK by settling their Punjabi, Pathan and other non-Shia Muslims. Pakistan has changed demography in Gilgit-Balistan and changed the social scene of POJK only to neutralize the influence of those in these two regions who want azadi from Pakistan. Similarly, it is not Kashmir, but Jammu whose demography has changed substantially after 1994 and it is the talk of the town. A number of townships have come up around Jammu city and along the entire border belt from Kathua to Sunderbani.
India must take cognizance of this naked and provocative interference of Pakistan in the internal affairs of India so that Pakistan is showed its rightful place. It should also come out with a white paper on the changes in demographic profiles of Kashmir and Jammu province so that the nation and the world come to know the whole truth. A white paper is imperative.
