Mehbooba dares separatists, says won't allow J&K to become Pakistan | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 7: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti's attitude towards Pakistan has, it seems, undergone a change. During the past few days, she made it a point to tell the people of the state in general and those of Kashmir in particular that terrorism and politics of senseless violence has adversely impacted the social, economic and political life of the people and that she would not allow Pakistan-like situation to develop in J&K. She has been making such statements not only in the legislature to counter the propaganda of parties like the NC but also outside it. Last week, Mehbooba Mufti told the assembly that things in many Muslim countries, including Pakistan, Syria and Afghanistan, were frightening and that it would be an evil day if similar situation developed in the state. And, on June 5, she again reiterated that she will not allow J&K to become a Pakistan-like state. She said that people of J&K would never allow themselves to get entrapped in the ominous situation of death and destruction perpetuated in most Muslim countries, including Pakistan and Afghanistan. "We have to ponder over the gory saga of death and destruction being perpetuated in most Muslim countries around the world, including the neighbouring Afghanistan and Pakistan where even schools and hospitals are not spared by the perpetrators of violence," Mehbooba was quoted as saying while addressing the participants of the Special National Integration Camp-2016 organized by the NCC at the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regimental Centre in Srinagar. "Violence has no religion and it just consumes everybody. I urge J&K's youth to come forward and help us in making peace a reality in the state and ending the miseries of the people," she further said. Her statements on the state of affairs in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria and other violence-hit Muslim countries came at a time when the by-election in the Anantnag Assembly constituency is round the corner and Pakistani agents like Syed Ali Shah Geelani and the NC of the rabble-rousers Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah have upped their ante against Mehbooba Mufti and her government. Mehbooba is seeking election from the Anantnag constituency and election will take place on June 22. If, on the one hand, Geelani has dismissed her government the worst enemy of Kashmiri Muslims, Omar Abdullah & Co have made common cause with separatists like Yasin Malik, who was put behind the bars in the Central Jail, Srinagar, the other day. A section of the Kashmiri-based media too has not been leaving no stone unturned to create difficulties for her and her government by publishing stories aimed at arousing popular passions against the Chief Minister. Mehbooba Mufti expressed grave concern over the developing situation in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Syria also came at a time when Geelani and his cohorts have urged the Anantnag electorate to stay away from election. The point is that Mehbooba Mufti has dared Geelani and his ilk by criticizing the state of affairs in the Muslim countries and also justifying her alliance with the BJP, notwithstanding the fact that she would be facing electorate in Anantnag, which during the past few days has witnessed spurt in terror-related activities - activities which culminated in the death of three BSF personnel and two police personnel. Her statements have surprised both her supporters and critics and political pundits for obvious reasons. |
