Basohli Public protest against PHE Dept, block road | | | Early Times Report
Basholi June 7: There has been no supply of drinking water to the Basohli area in Kathua district for the last one month with the result that locals are forced to travel kilometers of distance to fetch water for daily needs. Due to alleged mismanagement of the PHE Department, the water crisis has deepened in various parts of this district forcing the people to come out on streets to lodge protest. The residents of Basohli area here on Tuesday held a protest against PHE department over its failure in providing adequate supply of drinking water to the localities, blocking the main road for hours. "Despite repeated requests to PHE authorities, the problem of water scarcity was not solved due to which people, including men, women and children held protests against the department and blocked the main road, plugging all entry and exit routes", the locals said. The agitating people also accused the department of giving preferential treatment to certain areas at the cost of the deserving ones. "No attention is being paid towards the repairing of existing supply lines but in order to give benefits to some officers and contractors preference is being given to laying of new lines", they said, adding "in some areas there is extra supply of drinking water while as in other areas consumers are not getting sufficient supply even on alternate days". They threatened to intensify their agitation in case the problem was not addressed in coming days. Later, SHO Basohli reached the spot and they assured people to take up the matter with the concerned officers. The people then lifted dharna and allowed the movement of vehicles. |
