Jammu police burst International drug network, five arrested
Huge consignment of drugs meant for UAE, 11.44 lakhs cash recovered

Jammu, June 7: With the arrest of the five smugglers, the Special Operation Group (SOG) of the Jammu police have exposed drug mafia operating from International arena in India. From the possession of those arrested, police recovered fine quality 10 kg of Heroin, 10 kgs Brown Sugar worth Crores of rupees in the international market and cash amounting to Rs 11.44 lakhs. The consignment, which was brought from Pakistan was to be delivered in United Arab Emirate (UAE) when police nabbed the smuggler from Narwal area.
The catch was made, based on the information that the consignment was being brought from Pakistan via Tangdhar LOC for its delivery to UAE and accordingly ,SOG team intercepted a Srinagar based Santro car bearing registration number JKO3B-5905, in Narwal area and made the arrest, sources said.
The accused have been identified as Shafiq Ahmed, son of Fateh Joo, resident of Dilwar, Tangdhar, Karanah, Kupwara, Abdul Manan, son of Mohammad Yousuf, resident of Tangdhar, Kupwara, Jithin PC, son of Chandran, resident of Padinjekundii Marudha, Mundapotty Mallaampuram, Kerala, Nizam-ud-Din, son of Sakeer Hussain, resident of Thotakkad House and Surjeet Singh, resident of Kamoke Beas, Amritsar, at present, village Deoli, Bishnah, district Jammu.
During questioning, they revealed that the consignment was first taken to Kupwara and was being taken to Southern state from where the same was to be carried for UAE. Trikuta Nagar Police have registered a case against the accused under NDPS Act.
Meanwhile, IGP Jammu Danesh Rana when contacted said "As Kerala links have developed in this case so we are working on all the angles. We are also looking after whether the arrested persons were involved in smuggling of narcotics only or weapons also,"he said, adding "We are making all efforts to curb the drugs menace as it is priority for the Jammu Police," he said and further added that it is cross border narcotics smuggling as the consignment has been transported from across the border in Tangdhar area which the accused revealed during questioning.
He said that the Jammu Police is keeping check on suspected conduits operating in the bordering hamlets and if required, we call them from time to time for questioning.
The catch was made by the SOG team led by SP SOG Nasir Ahmed, supervised by SSP Jammu Sunil Gupta, DIG Jammu Ashkoor Wani and IGP Jammu Danesh Rana.
