36,000 cement bags worth Rs1.5 cr expired due to ERA's callousness | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, 20: As many as 36,000 cement bags meant for construction of Jahangir Chowk -Rambagh flyover have expired due to callous attitude of Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) which is looking after the construction work. Details available with Early Times reveal that during 4 months of unrest in Kashmir valley , the construction work on Jahangir Chowk -Rambagh flyover was stopped. During this time 36,000 bags of cement was already procured by ERA which was to be supplied to M/S Simplex Infrastructure which is executing the work , but due to callousness and misadministration by ERA , all this cement whose market cost is around Rs 1.50 Crore, got expired. ERA could have supplied the cement to Jammu area where several developmental works were being executed by ERA through various agencies , but instead of doing it , the cement was allowed to get expired. Pertinently, the summer unrest in Kashmir valley stalled the construction of the Jahangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover for more than 5 months and the Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) now says it is certain that the project would miss another deadline and won't be completed before 2018. The construction work was stopped because Simplex Infrastructure had abandoned the site amid the unrest. Most of the workers were also from outside Kashmir, and they had left after July unrest began. "There are many construction works being executed in Doda and Kishwar and the cement which was procured by ERA could have been provided to R&B , Irrigation and other organisations on concessional rates , but this was not done. We appeal CM to take this matter seriously and take action against the officials of ERA" said Mehrajudin Butt a social activist from Doda. |
