Concrete bunkers must to secure highway
Pampore Attack Aftermath

Police look for terrorist sympathizers, their mentors

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 20: Terrorists attacking an army convoy and killing three soldiers at Pampore on Jammu-Srinagar national highway two days ago has put the question mark on the security on this strategic highway.
Sources said that top officials of all the security agencies have taken a serious note of the security lapse and they have decided to take stringent security measures on the highway from Bijbehara to Pampore as this stretch has become vulnerable. "This is for the fourth time in this year terrorists have struck on the highway. In coming days steps would be taken to make the highway secure as Pakistan based terrorists are under pressure to show their presence and make their presence felt," said a source.
He said, "Initial investigations in Pampore attack have revealed that terrorists were motorcycle borne and after carrying out the attack they managed to escape from the spot."
"In coming days number of mobile bunkers from Bijbehara to Pampore would be increased and CCTVS would be put at place to keep a strict vigil over the movement of suspects," the source added.
Referring to the Pampore attack, he said, "If army had retaliated the fire it could have led to the civilian causality that's why soldiers did not open fire. Terrorists took the advantage of the huge presence of people in the Pampore town and fled away. A strategy is being devised to keep them at bay if they indulge in any sort of misadventure next time. Sharp shooters would remain deployed on the highway to ensure that whenever terrorists appear they are shot dead before they carry out any action."
A day after the Pampore attack high level security review meeting was held at Awantipora in south Kashmir on Monday. The meeting was chaired by DGP K Rajendra and was followed by another meeting between the police chief and GoC 15 Corps Lt General J S Sandhu in Srinagar.
Sources said that Police have started an intensive exercise in Pampore area to track the sympathizers of terrorists. "Terrorists cannot carry out such strikes without the help of locals. Police have asked the residents of Pampore and other adjoining areas to provide the details of their tenants and others who are staying in their houses," they added.
A defence analyst while talking to Early Times said, "The decision of the government to dismantle the bunkers has backfired. If government and security agencies want to prevent such attacks in future they should ensure that concrete bunkers are reconstructed at strategic places so that security forces are able to keep the vigil round the clock."
He said, "We cannot keep on sacrificing our soldiers forever and allow our enemies to bleed us."
