Arun Trisal Early Times Report
Kathua, Dec 20: Kanyari near Janglote here is without drinking water supply for the last 15 years. Though PHE has laid water pipes, no water is supplied through them till date to the area. Locals have expressed resentment against the step-motherly treatment meted out to them and criticised the politicians who talk about development but could not help them to get drinking water. Farman Ali said, "200 families are without water in Kanyari and Purana Pind as a result of which they have to purchase drinking water at Rs 300 per tanker." Due to scarcity of water, agricultural land in the two villages was also alleged to have turned into a desert. Ali claimed that despite repeated representations made to the concerned department, nothing had been done so far to supply water to the area. Mohammad Irfan said, "The department has provided water connections, but not provided a drop of water as a result of which there is a drought-like situation in the area." Shamima Begum appealed to the government to make water supply to the area soon so that they might not suffer anymore. When contacted, PHE AEE Opinder Singh said the work would start in phases subject to the availability of appropriate funds. |
