Officials fail to develop Kud as tourist resort
12/20/2016 11:19:25 PM
ARUN DEV JASROTIA
Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Dec 20: Kud is a famous picnic spot in Jammu and Kashmir. Tourists from all over the country visit this picturesque resort but it has become the victim of the official apathy.
Like Kud there are many tourists spots in Udhampur district. However, there is shortage of accommodation and lack of road connectivity.
One of the glaring examples of official apathy is famous Maal Road in Kud.
Its very unfortunate that the shopping complex and parking slots are nowhere in sight and the road is in shambles. Many electric poles have become defunct. This road has become a haunted place due to the lack of concern shown by the authorities.
“If Mall Road had been in good condition it would have boosted the tourism industry and helped the locals. Crores of rupees were spent on this road but these have all gown down the drain due to the lackadaisical attitude of the authorities,” locals said.
They said the work of said Mall Road started 16 years ago. “Our forefathersgave land for the development of the area but till date we have not achieved anything. Patnitop Development Authority has been working on Mall Road project for the past 16-yrs without we getting any desired results. Government should order a high level probe to know how much money has been spent on construction of the Maal Road,” locals opined.
Despite repeated attempts none of the top officials could be contacted for their comments.
