Resentment among Valley transporters over deduction of welfare fund | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 20: The transporters have taken serious exception of the role of Government over welfare fund deduction . The transporters in a plea to Government have demanded to look into the decision in view o the loss suffered by them over the four month long turmoil during which transporters suffered a heavy loss. In a plea to Government they demanded that the decision be revoked as the transporters can get a lease. They said instead of giving incentive to them the Government has put an extra burden on them by deducting welfare fund which has no fun for them. They said the welfare fund which has been imposed on the transporters has failed to serve any purpose over the years. Hence its deduction is purposeless to them. Transporters have petitioned before the Transport Minister and sought his immediate intervention in the matter. They have also decided to petition before the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and put forth their demand forcefully. They said instead of coming to their rescue and pay some compensation to transporters for the losses suffered by them due to this year's Summer strike and due to heavy floods in 2014 the Government was putting extra burden on them. Mir Muzafar a representative of transporters said that the Government should do away with this welfare fund as creation of this fund over the years has served no purpose to transporters. He also alleged that transporters demanded that the banks should be given relief for time being for remitting the loan to banks and given a chance to recover the loss suffered due to turmoil. He accused the bank authorities of harassing the transporters in this regard. |
