SI illegally detains driver | Negotiations on for bribe money | | Hulchul in Police
Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 20: A Sub-Inspector (SI) of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) posted in Jammu district as in-charge police post has allegedly detained a driver for more than 72 hours without lodging an FIR and is negotiating a deal with him for letting him free. Sources said the SI has detained the 30-year-old driver who contracted his Tata Mobile with a power company which is electrifying the state with new overhead wire. As per sources, the SI had received a written complaint regarding theft of wire from city area, and instead of lodging an FIR the SI detained the driver without any legal formalities. "The driver is under illegal confinement at the said police post and in-charge police post is negotiating the bribe amount in lakhs for releasing that driver," said sources. It is pertinent to mention here that the said SI was earlier in news when he struck a deal with a drug peddler who was arrested with 3 kg narcotics, and let him free after receiving Rs 3 lakh. Sources said he adopted same modus operandi and let free the drug peddler without registration of FIR. Although an enquiry was initiated by authorities, the SI has managed a compromise with accused by returning that money. "It is a matter of grave concern that police has kept the driver in illegal confinement for three days now and the SI is negotiating on bribe money which is said to be around Rs 10 lakh," said sources. They said the said SI is so deeply involved in corrupt practices that in less than six years of service, he has purchased a piece of land in city outskirts which is posh area and constructed a big house. |
