Man jumps into river, dies | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Dec 20: Police today resorted to mild lathicharge after people restrained cops from shifting the body of a man, who had allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a dry river at Manjakote near here, to hospital for post-mortem. The dead was identified as Mohammad Jahangir, son of Munshi of Darhal. He was presently working and living with his brother-in-law at Manjakot. Though the reason behind this extreme step was yet to be ascertained, police had initiated inquest proceedings under section 174 of CrPC. When police tried to shift the body to hospital in an ambulance, people, including his family members and relatives, blocked the road, demanding that there should be no police case in the matter. Police had to resort to mild lathicharge to disperse them, resulting in minor injuries to a woman. The Manjakot SDPO later rushed to the spot and assured people of all cooperation from police. The body was later shifted to the district hospital where post-mortem was conducted on it. Later, it was handed over to family members for last rites. |
