Visitors denied food, schedule of workshop | JU insults visiting delegates | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 20: The Jammu University has come under sharp attack from the delegates who have come here to participate in a five-day workshop being organized by its Department of Economics and Human Resource Development Council (HRDC). The delegates, who have come from various universities of the country, felt insulted on Tuesday when the organisers refused to provide them lunch and schedule of the prestigious workshop. A scholar told Early Times that even on second day of the workshop, the schedule has not been provided to them. Ironically, the organisers had patted their back for organizing such workshop. "Rs 1000 has been charged from the participants. But on the inaugural day only lunch was provided to the delegates and not tea or snacks. In the name of stationary, a pen and a file folder was provided", he said. The delegate said that even on second day, the schedule of the workshop was not provided. "We have attended workshops in Delhi and other universities of the country, where on the very first day along with stationary kit, schedule is handed over to the participants. But astonishingly, here on second day of the workshop, the schedule was presumed to be in preparation stage", he added. Another delegate said that demanding food and programme schedule seems to be very odd her. "A scholar has its dignity which should be respected by the organizers. By not providing these facilities the university has virtually insulted us." "How we can arrange food at our own expenses, as we have already paid for it? If the organisers could not provide these basic things, they should have mentioned it in the notification", a delegate from outside the state said. He said they had high hopes from NAAC "A" Grade University, but all hopes were dashed to ground. "No doubt we came here for study purposes, but that doesn't mean scholars don't require basic amenities", the delegates said. |
