Poonch, Dec 20: The son of an ex-naib sarpanch of a panchayat in Mendhar tehsil of the district has been detained by police for allegedly committing rape on a woman.
The woman had gone to fetch water from a spring at Ghani. In a complaint lodged with police, she alleged that Zulfikar, son of ex-naib sarpanch Niaz Ahmad, appeared from behind the bushes in a nude condition while she was filling water in a pot.
He caught hold of her and then committed rape on her, police sources said, quoting her complaint.
The woman and her husband had also gone to the ex-naib sarpanch's residence to apprise him of the alleged incident, but he had driven them away and was also alleged to have assaulted the victim. The woman with a fractured arm was later hospitalised, sources said.
When contacted, Mendhar SDPO Shahid Nayeem said a case in this connection was registered at Mendhar police station under sections 376, 311, 354, 294, 323 and 511 of RPC.
"We have detained the accused and started investigation into the case," he informed. |
