Deadlock between employees, govt ends
5/15/2010 11:56:36 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 15: With the government 'accommodating' most of the concerns of state employees, the deadlock that prevailed for over two months over demands has ended. In the two rounds of meetings with representatives of employees today, threadbare discussions helped stalemate end and sorting out of major issues even as the main demands on release of arrears and enhancement of retirement age have been shelved for want of what government contended 'consensus of all political parties.ESMA has been lifted and all the cases against employees have been withdrawn. In the post agitation period that lasted over two weeks in March this year, the crucial meeting between leaders of employees and the cabinet sub committee led by Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather took place this evening at Srinagar in which the government agreed in principle payment of 8% DA which is due from January 2010. While from January upto May this will be deposited in the GP fund of employees, DA will be released in cash from June this year. On the vital issue of HRA the government has agreed hi...

Politicians master ‘art’ of mud slinging, leg pulling
5/15/2010 11:56:00 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 15: The present day politicians, it seems, have mastered the art of mudslinging and leg pulling. If recent utterances of politicians are any indicator then it is quite safe to presume that their intellect (if they had any) has registered considerable decline. The new found interest of the politicians leaves little time for addressing problems of the people. Congress leader and former minister, Ghulam Rasool Kar while addressing a convention at Ganderbal Saturday took a dig at Syed Ali Geelani. "He has double standards. When he was in assembly, he would swear by Indian constitution. Now he has an entirely different story to tell." Geelani, however, believ...

Omar Govt's flagship scheme has few takers
SKEWPY loses its sheen in red tape; MOU doesn't crystallize in 9 months
5/15/2010 11:55:53 PM
AHMED ALI FAYYAZ EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, May 15: In the next three months, architects of the coalition government's flagship scheme would be celebrating anniversary of Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather's announcement of a "revolutionary" employment policy, made in the summer session of the state Legislative Assembly last year. Notwithstanding the tall claims of the top government functionaries, there have been few takers to Sher-e-Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme for the Youth (SKEWPY). Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Jammu & Kashmir Bank Ltd over arrangement of financial support for the prospective entrepreneurs has not crystallized either---in the last nine mon...

NC pouring venom on India, Congress mum -- I
5/15/2010 11:55:05 PM
RUSTAM EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 15: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is sharing power with the Congress in the state and his father Farooq Abdullah, who is sharing power with the Congress in New Delhi, are not only abusing the Congress and Jawaharlal Nehru publicly, but are also condemning New Delhi for diluting the sovereign status of Jammu and Kashmir or for integrating the state into India. They have virtually revolted against New Delhi. They have virtually preached secession. How else should one describe what Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah said while addressing Gram Sabha convention at Srinagar on May 13? What did Farooq Abdullah say to counter the People's Democratic ...

It appears that neither Gagan nor Paramjit realized the gravity of the situation as they started filling air into the tyre. The tyre burst as it co...
