Cabinet orders massive reshuffle in Police, civil administration | | |

SRINAGAR, May 31: Much speculated and much awaited massive reshuffle, ending months of uncertainty in different ranks of the establishment, finally materialized today when the state Cabinet considered and accorded sanction to transfer and appointment of as many as 90 senior officials in Police and civil administration. Several Heads of Departments, including the high profile Director of Information Kh Farooq Reenzu and Director of Rural Development Kashmir Mrs Dilshad Khan, are among 34 officers of the rank of Secretary in the Government, Special Secretary and Additional Secretary to Government who have been shifted to new places of postings.
Hour-long Cabinet meeting that started off at 1600 hours was chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. All the 17 Cabinet Ministers participated in the meeting.

SRINAGAR, May 31: While promoting four DIGs to the rank of IGP, Cabinet today accorded sanction to a major shake-up in Police Department. DIGs, namely Hemant Kumar Lohia, Rashmi Ranjan Swain, Arun Kumar Chowdhary and Pankaj Saxena, have been promoted to the rank of IGP in the wake of their clearance by DPC last month.
According to press release issued here this evening, IGP Traffic, Mohammad Amin Shah, has been transferred and appointed as MD Police Housing Corporation in place of Ravinder Kotwal who has been transferred and posted as IGP Railway, J&K.

RAJOURI, May 31: Fake appointment letters of lab assistants and peons in education department, duly approved and signed by chief minister Omar Abdullah, were today recovered from a confidence trickster posing as principal secretary to CM.
He had been selling the fake appointment letters to the educated unemployed youth and was active in Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi and Kathua districts for the past five years, police sources said.
He charged over Rs 1 lakh per appointment order, the sources added. Identified as Shafiq Ahmad, son of Mir Mohammad, he hailed from Atti in Rajouri.

JAMMU, May 31: A youth, who only last week joined Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) ranks, today shot dead his commander, who was in the list of most wanted militants, in Krandi Dhar forests of Doda and later surrendered before security forces.
Police sources said Abdul Latief went missing under mysterious circumstances from his home at Krandi Dhar in Doda 10 days back. A missing report in this regard was lodged by his parents with the concerned police station, the sources added.

JAMMU,May 31: Two under barrel grenade launchers (UBGLs) and some other explosive items were recovered by security forces from near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch today.
The explosives were found lying in a militant hideout near the LoC at Kath Panjal in Poonch, police sources said.
The recovery included two UBGLs, 104 AK rounds, 185 pika rounds, two fuses and two handgrenades. The hideout was later destroyed, the sources added.

JAMMU: A 30-year-old youth was killed on being hit by an unknown vehicle on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway at Udhampur, about 70 km from here, in the wee hours of today.
He was identified as Kuldeep Kumar, son of Krishan Lal of Traad.Police sources said he was spotted lying in a pool of blood on the road by some passersby, who then contacted police.Cops rushed to the spot and evacuated him to the Udhampur district hospital where before breathing his last he told police that he was hit by some speeding vehicle.
