Jammu, Mar 12: To make today's youth aware of cyber-crime problems, the NSS in collaboration with School of Computer Science, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University organized a workshop on "Cyber safety and Social Issues". According to press release, Rakshit Tandon-a veteran and expert in the field-serving as advisor to different government agencies and ministries and other organization across the world, was the resource person on the occasion. Rakshit Tandon is also the director of ABR Information Security Solutions Pvt.Ltd, as well as a consultant for cyber crime department for Delhi and Haryana Police. Dr. VK Tripathi flagged off the workshop with a small speech emphasizing the need for cyber security in India followed by Dr. Ajay Kaul, Director School of Computer Science, who made students aware of the looming cyber threats which we are facing today. During the workshop Rakshit Tandon discussed various cases of cyber-crimes he came across as a consultant for cyber-crimes department. He especially emphasized the problem of online stalking, bullying and sexual predation against minors, which has recently become a major problem in Indian cyber space. The Fact that nothing once digitalized can ever be deleted, as well as our negligence towards this matter has been the reason for the Indian cyber population falling prey to online crimes. While India has a population of nine hundred million internet users, only 8-10% are aware and responsible netizens. The workshop also covered topics like internet addiction, cookie tracing, difference between Hacking and Ethical Hacking, android vulnerability and importance of Cyber Hygiene and Netiquettes. |
