Jammu, Mar 12: The Roads and Surface Transport Ministry (R&ST) today accorded sanction to the construction Rs 137 cr worth Dangduru-Nawapachi road and release of Rs 91 cr for the widening of Warrah bridge-Kuldded Chowk road, besides increasing Central Road Funds (CRF) up to Rs 480 cr which is four time increase in the funds sanctioned by the union government to the state last year. Talking to Early Times, R&B Minister of State (MoS) Sunil Sharma said that the projects sanctioned by the union government under various heads for building road infrastructure will give boast to road connectivity in the state and particularly in the areas which are lacking behind in connectivity including erstwhile Doda district.He said Union Minister for R&ST Nitin Gadkari during a meeting with him ad J&K R&B Minister Syed Altaf Bukhari, today accorded sanction for the release of Rs 137 cr for Dangduru-Nawapachi roadand Rs 91 cr for road widening from Warrah Bridge to Kuleed Chowk, Kishtwar. He said the union minister also ordered for survey on Chenger (Marwah)- Bonda (Chatroo) tunnel which will provide all weather connectivity to Marwah and Warwan areas of the district. He said that Kishtwar-Marwah road was started in early 80's but was completed only up to Dangduru in the last over 30 years, added that the road project was delayed on the name of "Wild life" century by the previous governments, adding that 35 year long wait of people of Marwah area having population of over 50000 finally comes to an end with the sanction of Rs 137 cr by the union government for this road. He said that the Ring Road proposal between Jammu-Srinagar was also discussed and raised by the J&K delegation comprising of MP Fayaz Ahmad Mir, Nazir Ahmad Laway and Shamsher Singh Manhas, beside Commissioner Secretary R&B Tanveer Jahan and other senior officers of the state and Centre were also present in the meeting. He said that Sangpora- Viloo tunnel had already been sanctioned by the ministry early this month. He said senior minister Altaf Bukhari during the course of the meeting underlined the urgency of better road connectivity in state with a mosaic of geographical diversity, hilly and inaccessible terrains, remoteness of areas and weather vagaries and highlighted the importance of this sector for overall development and economic welfare of the state.The minister emphasizing the need for early completion of 4-lane National Highway (NH) Project, also laid stress on upgradation and improvement of existing Jammu-Srinagar NH, issue of declaration of Mughal Road and other major roads of the state as NHs, construction of tunnels on various routes including tunnels at Peer Ki Gali on Mughal Road, Lolab-Bandipora and the Sudh-Mahadev connecting Marmath of Doda district. The proposals for the construction of these tunnels have already been submitted to the Union Government. The minister also sought enhancement of limited CRF schemes for various projects other than the 13 projects already submitted to the union ministry costing Rs 274 cr. The issue of delay in completion of Sopore Bridge and Parimpora to Narbal road was also discussed & the union minister urged to ask BRO for the early completion of these two projects for the convenience of general public.He also stressed on approval of more projects under Inter State Connectivity plans and got approval for one more such project of Basohli-Bani-Bhadarwah costing Rs 197 cr in addition to already agreed upon funds by the union ministry. He sought speedy completion of NH project by the Central Agencies and mentioned the delays in completion of works on Srinagar-Qazigund stretch. He urged the Union Minister for taking up the work of two more sub-projects of Banihal-Ramban section and Ramban-Udhampur section for which the funds have already been approved by the central government. Reassuring full support to the J&K Government, Gadkari agreed to enhance the sanctioned allocations under CRF to a total of Rs 480 cr for the current fiscal and asked for a DRPs of the projects other than the already submitted 13 projects including upgradation of old Airport road from Bypass to Rangreth in Kashmir and Dangduru to Hanzal Marwah in Kishtwar. He also agreed in principal to handover Srinagar-Baramulla highway to the state Public Works department. Both Bukhari and Sunil Sharma thanked the union minister for showing his generosity while sanctioning funds for various developmental works in the state. |
