MENDHAR, Mar 12: In what is being seen as a major embarrassment for block development office here, several people today held a protest against it, demanding clean town and roads. Several people gathered in the town and held a demonstration against block development officer (BDO) and his staff, holding them responsible for uncleanliness in the town. "For the past 15 days, there has been no cleanliness drive in the town and its peripheral areas," they alleged. Naib-sarpanch, Mendhar, Mohammad Aslam, who was one among the protesters, said it was very difficult to pass through the town as the garbage and other unwanted items littered its roads, bus stand and other places. At least 13 sweepers were deployed in the town but none of them was seen for the past 15 days. Official sources said these sweepers had not received their salaries for the past few months. Aslam said people of the area, who were engaged under MGNREGA, had not got their dues for the last at least three years. Some computer operators and others in the BDO office had been demanding commission from them for releasing their dues, he alleged. He appealed to the RDD minister to look into the matter and do justice with them. When contacted, ACD, Poonch, Mehmood Ahmad Malik said he had asked the BDO concerned to look into the matter. When reached for his comments, BDO Mohammad Rafiq Choudhary requested this reporter not to carry this news item. |
