BJP rakes up Hawala issue to divert attention from Alam's release | Puts separatists in tight spot, leaves them guessing | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 12: Embarrassed by the release of the 2010 unrest mastermind Masarat Alam, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has gone into damage control mode and is trying its best to reassure the people at least in the Jammu region that it has not compromised with its ideology. Since the day Alam has been released the BJP leaders have tried their best to maintain their posture and have made all the possible attempts to convey it to the people that BJP was not aware about the decision to release Alam and it was not a part of it. Recently the BJP spokesman for Kashmir unit Khalid Jehangir issued a hard hitting statement against separatists apparently to divert the attention of the people from Alam's release. Jehangir demanded that Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed should reinvestigate the Hawala cases registered against the separatists. "Many cases about separatists receiving money through Hawala channels were registered in different police stations but investigations were left half way. Chief Minister should get these cases reinvestigated to ascertain how much money was pumped into Jammu and Kashmir to keep the pot boiling," Jehangir said. The BJP spokesman alleged that separatists have "built mansions" and have a lavish life style. "The Chief Minister, who is also the Home Minister of the state, should order a probe to ascertain the source of income of the separatists," he added. "Separatists have been at the forefront of fomenting trouble and they have received huge amounts from various channels to ensure that disturbance prevails in JK. It's the duty of the government to expose such elements, who are promoting violence through various means, including orchestrating street protests," the BJP spokesman added. The BJP by raising Hawala issue has hit the separatists under the belt. There is no doubt about the fact that crores of rupees were pumped into strife torn Jammu and Kashmir during the past 25-years to "promote violence" and to ensure that disturbance prevails in the state. "Many cases were left half way due to unknown reasons. It's an established fact that Pakistan pumped in lot of money to keep the pot boiling and to sponsor terrorism in JK," said one of the BJP leaders. He said that if peace has to prevail then it's very important for the government to tighten its noose over the elements inimical to peace. "Our party is committed to fight terrorism and ensure complete merger of Jammu and Kashmir with the union of India," he added. The BJP was trying to change the discourse and raking up the issue of Hawala money can put the separatists in a tight spot as during the past six years of NC-Congress rule separatists were given a "free hand" at least no one bothered to check where from they were getting the money to orchestrate street protests and other violent acts. A police official said, "If Hawala cases are reopened many separatists would end up in a jail as investigations have revealed that they received money through various illegal channels. Police in the past had unearthed many such connections but due to erstwhile political dispensation not paying much heed towards this very important aspect no action was initiated against the accused involved in this racket." If BJP succeeds in getting the Hawala cases reopened it would break the back of the separatists in Jammu and Kashmir and they would be left red faced as it would expose them before the people. "Money has played a big role in the Kashmir turmoil if it stops flowing separatists would forget secessionism and would automatically join the national mainstream," opined a politician. |
