Subletting business in JU hostels, politically influential manage illegal stay | | | Bivek Mathur Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 12: With the alleged connivance of boarders, an unholy business of subletting hostel rooms of Jammu University to some politically influential students is going on while officials who include provost and Wardens are tight-lipped over the issue. According to insiders, the illegal occupation of the university hostels has further increased tensions among hostel students as few months ago a student was harassed and humiliated on communal grounds by some politically influential students who are living in these hostels illegally. Authorities are sleeping over this serious issue and rebuffing this by saying that it is absolutely normal. According to sources, actual boarders are the beneficiaries of various scholarships schemes of government and the hostel rooms are being sublet to the influential students in lieu of money and some of these boarders are living outside the varsity. "University wardens are also being paid their share by boarders to ensure their silence. I have discussed the issue of illegal occupancy of university hostel in detail with the Provost as well as warden a number of times but none of them paid any heed," said a student wishing anonymity. He further said that while violators are enjoying lavish accommodation at reasonable rates in the varsity hostels, deserving students who are in dire need of these rooms are running from pillar to post for the accommodation but all their attempts are proving damp squib due to the negligence of the varsity officials at the helm of affairs. Repeated attempts of Early Times to contact Provost Hostels Prof. Jasbir Singh went in vain. |
