Early Times Report

ANANTNAG, Mar 12: A complete shutdown was observed in Pahalgam area of South Kashmir on Thursday against the alleged misbehaviour of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) with locals and MLA Pahalgam Altaf Ahmed Kaloo.
Hundreds of Pahalgam residents staged a protest demonstration against Chief Executive Officer of Pahalgam Development Authority and accused him of misbehaving with residents in his office who were accompanying MLA Pahalgam. Angry protesters informed Early Times that on Wednesday, a delegation of locals along with MLA Pahalgam Altaf Ahmad Kaloo visited the office of Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Yousuf Bhat and requested him to allow them constructing STP's for which they have reportedly got the permission from the High Court.
They said that instead of giving patient hearing to MLA and locals, CEO PDA stood up from the chair and started shouting. "Kaloo conveyed him the grievances which general public face but CEO stood up and in a very high tune abused us," said a protester Asif Ahmad said. They said that instead of accepting mistake, CEO PDA today went ahead and accused the MLA of manhandling him and ransacking the furniture of the office which is totally wrong and baseless.
Protesters told Early Times that employees of the Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) resorted to violence and injured one member of the delegation. They demanded stern action against the officer and said that the officer is minting money from the influential by carrying out selective demolition driver after assembly elections. "He is earning in crores, this could be established easily with the fact that he is demolishing the structures of poor but is not even serving demolition notices to influential," they said while demanding stern action against the officer.
Pertinently, it was reported the alleged manhandling and ransacking of the furniture of the CEO PDA's office by MLA Pahalgam, Altaf Ahmad Kaloo. CEO of the PDA, Muhammad Yusuf Bhat when contacted said that the MLA had come to his office in the morning with a number of officers and workers of National Conference (NC). "We offered him tea but he soon started misbehaving with me and beat up a number of employees in my office and even broke the furniture," Bhat alleged yesterday and accused him of pressurizing for allowing the passage of construction material into Pahalgam, against the high court directions.
However, MLA Pahalgam Altaf Ahmad Kaloo refuted the allegations and said, "I was with delegation of locals there. Executive officer of Municipal committee Pahalgam was too present inside the office of CEO. When I told him that why is not allowing locals to construct STP's for which they have got the permission from the Court he shouted and abused my workers so I left his office." He said that he was shocked to know that he has been accused of manhandling and ransacking the office furniture. Police told Early Times that neither the CEO nor the MLA has lodged complaint with the police. "We are still waiting but as of now none among them have filed a complaint," a senior official said. Meanwhile, office of the CEO of PDA remained locked and none of the employee joined the duty.
