Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 12: From the very first day since Choudhary Lal Singh took over as Minister for Health and Medical Education, he is in news for misbehaving with doctors and new episode in this series is heated arguments between Medical Superintendent of Sarwal hospital and Choudhary Lal Singh, which allegedly took place two days back ago.
Sources in the Health department informed Early Times that Medical Superintendent of Sarwal hospital ADS Manhas has gone on leave, in protest against the alleged misbehaviour. The reason behind incident, sources said, is the non-payment of dues by a medical shop owner, who is allegedly close to Choudhary Lal Singh and had not been paying the amount despite repeated instructions by hospital authorities. "The clash broke out, when Medical Superintendent Sarwal hospital reportedly asked Medical Shop owner to pay the dues pending", sources said.
Sources said that the owner of Medical Shop owner had secured tender for a medical shop inside premises of Sarwal hospital to the tune of Rs. 38 Lakhs in year 2013. "For the last two years, the owner has not been paying the amount to hospital administration", sources said. After the tender was approved in favour of the Medical Shop owner, a temporary place for shop was given in the hospital premises, on the pretext that till the permanent shop would be built and allotted to the owner.
After the shop was built by the authorities, sources said, the owner refused to shift to the permanent accommodation and continued from the same temporary shop forcibly, instead of shifting and had been refusing to pay the remaining tender money to the hospital exchequer.
Sources at Sarwal hospital said, due to strong political links of the medical shop owner, neither the amount was realized and nor the previous administration took action. "When the incumbent Medical Superintendent asked the Medical shop owner to pay the tender amount he, allegedly took help of Minister, "sources said.
Sources alleged that Medical Superintendent was directed not to take any action against Medical Shop owner and also asked not to harass him in future but Medical Superintendent resisted the move. "Higher official tried to pacify the situation and asked Medical Superintendent to agree with Minister but Medical Superintendent refused to budge under pressured and went on leave, to register protest against misbehavior and pressure of Minister", sources said.
Superintendent of Sarwal hospital Dr. ADS Manhas, while talking the Early Times denied any such kind of clash and said that he was on holiday leave.
