J&K BJP ministers desperate for luxuries; Central BJP leadership back to core agenda | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 12: BJP Ministers in the State Government are more concerned about their luxuries and important departments but the party's central leadership has started damage control exercise to improve its image which is badly dented after release of Masarat Alam. Realising that confidence of party cadre has badly shattered due to recent episodes after formation of government with PDP, BJP central leadership has come back to its orginal agenda to give a clear message to its cadre. On Wednesday while replying to supplementaries, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said dilution or abrogation of the Article needs amendment to the Constitution and "we (NDA government) do not have numbers in the House". The Constitution has no mention of "special status to Jammu and Kashmir" and Article 370 provides for temporary provisions with respect to it, government on Wednesday said while making it clear that the present dispensation cannot tamper with it because of lack of numbers. Replying to supplementaries, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said dilution or abrogation of the Article needs amendment to the Constitution and "we (NDA government) do not have numbers in the House". He said government will take into consideration the historical perspective if any decision is taken with regard to Article 370. He was responding a suggestion by Karan Singh, senior Congress leader from the state, that the government should take extreme caution if it wants to have a re-look at the Article 370. When asked about the profits and losses of the Article to the state and country as a whole, Rijiju said he would not like to discuss it. Important to mention here that on February 25, the another Minister in the Modi Government had strongly supported Article 370 and made it clear that it has no plan to repeal it. |
