Locals stage protest against acute shortage of water | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Mar 12: Locals from various towns and villages in district alleging administration has failed to provide them basic amenities including safe drinking water and electricity and a large number of local staged protest over shortage of water on Rajouri-Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) road and also blocked the road for hours. Locals from inhabitants of Dhanore Jaralan situated in the vicinity of district head quarters on Rajouri-Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) road held a protest and blocked the university road for more than three hours forcing the students, faculty members including Vice Chancellor , BGSBU to move on feet. Amid slogans against PDD and PHE officials for their non-cooperative attitude, the locals alleged that for the last more than two years they have been crying for safe drinking water but despite assurances nothing has been done in this matter."PHE officials sometimes provide water through tankers but that is not sufficient to meet their daily needs. Women and children are forced to collect water from natural resources, " said Farooq one of the protestors. Another villager said that the final examiniation of the students are in progress and Power Development Department (PDD) has failed to provide electricity as per scheduled curtailment i.e. for 8 hours a day. On getting the information of the protest Hamid Choudhry, Deputy SP (Hqrs) and inspector Yashpal Singh, SHO rushed to the spot and pacified the people assuring them to take up the matter with higher authorities. |
