Disabled pension case: DB grants week's time to respondents | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 12: In a letter written by Chairman Disable Welfare Association of J&K High Court regarding enhancement their pension, treated as Public Interest Litigation (PIL), a Division Bench (DB) of State High Court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur today granted one week's time to counsel for the finance department to get instruction positively. After hearing AAG Seema Shekhar appearing for the state, the Division Bench observed that despite granting one week's time to get instructions on the proposal already submitted by the Social Welfare Department for enhancement of pension under various pension schemes for the disabled persons, no instruction is forthcoming. The court further observed that if no instructions are received, the Court may direct Secretary Finance Department to appear in person. This significant direction has been passed in the letter written by Shushil Kumar Sharma Chairman Disabled Welfare Association that at present the pension of handicapped persons of J&K State is very low comparing to other states at the present Uttrakhad has paid Rs 800/- to old age and handicapped persons and widows and in Harayana Rs 1000/- has been paid Rs 800/- to old age and handicapped persons and widows. In the letter it has been further submitted that during the 2nd last assembly sessions, it was decided that this shall be enhanced within six months but no action has been taken so far. (JNF) |
