Atrocities on Jammuities during 2008 Amarnath agitation | Pressure on BJP to implement recommendations of Justice (Retd) G D Sharma Inquiry Report | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 12: State unit of BJP is likely to face intense pressure in the coming days from various organisations of Sangh Parivar to implement recommendations of Justice (Retd) G D Sharma Commission before August 31 this year. Inquiry Commission headed by Justice Sharma was constituted to single those police officers who had committed atrocities on the agitators during two months long agitation for Amarnath land row in the year 2008. After formation of PDP-BJP coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir, various organisations of Sangh Parivar have been mounting pressure on state unit of BJP to provide justice to the victims of police atrocities in 2008. While calling off 60 days long historic agitation on August 31, 2008 after signing an agreement with the state government, the then Shri Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti (SASS) had also promised to get those police officers punished who had committed atrocities on the people. In the agreement it was promised that 800 kanals of land at Baltal would be exclusively used by the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board for the Yatra period. No money will be charged for using the forest land. As reportedly exclusively by the Early Times, Sangh has already prepared lists of those officers who were responsible for committing atrocities on the people during the agitation. After Amarnath land agitation, one man inquiry commission headed by Justice GD Sharma was constituted but report of this Commission is yet to be made public because the previous NC-Congress had not shown any interest to punish those who were responsible for abusing state apparatus to quell the agitation. Credible sources in the Sangh Parivar said that Justice Sharma had fixed responsibility on some police officers for inflicting atrocities on people of Jammu region during the stir. Interestingly some of these officers were given plum positions by the previous NC-Congress regime as prize. Justice Sharma Commission has, reportedly, also recommended compensation for businessmen and traders of Jammu who had suffered due to 60 days long agitation. For the last seven years traders and businessmen of Jammu region have been demanding compensation like their counter-parts of Kashmir Valley. ==
