Jammu, July 12: In what could be termed as the poor planning of government as two years on, CT scan(computerized tomography) machine installed at Sub district hospital Bhaderwah but surprising till date the machine didn't conduct a single test, causes patients have compelled to visit Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu to get their tests done.
Sources informed Early Times that two years back Director Health Services Jammu had installed CT scan machine at SDH Bhaderwah but due to a technical snag the machine yet not functioning. "The CT scan single slice machine worth more than Rs.1 crore procured by state government in the year 2012 for this health institution, and it was installed in2013 is still un-operational, besides owing to non-availability of expert to operate the same", sources said, adding that such type of machine has one of the fastest and most accurate tools for examining the chest, abdomen, pelvis and also helpful to examine patients with injuries from trauma patients. But the lackadaisical approach of health department the machine was dumped in the corner of hospital.
To run the machine in one shift requires a Radiologist, a trained Technician, one paramedical and one class IV staff but it was very surprising that state government has failed to sanction staff especially for CT scan to run the machine.
Whenever there was an accident or any patient visited hospital, doctors are compelled to shift the patients to district Hospital Doda, or Government Medical College Jammu for treatment despite having machine at SDH Bhaderwah.
Castigating minister concerned sources said, if machine is available in hospital then why government had not repaired it. "The purpose for which the machine was given is defeated as the machine is of no use", they said, alleging that it was a nexus of department and doctors, who have been making money through the commission from private CT Scan operators.
The machine plays a significant role to examine in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of vascular diseases that can lead to stroke, kidney failure or even death", sources said and adding that moreover, the machine has diagnosing and treating spinal problems and injuries to hands, feet and other skeletal structures.
It is pertinent to mention here that the CT scan was used extensively for accident victims, particularly in detecting injury to the brain. CT scan is done for all accident victims who have sustained head injuries. They further said that due callousness of concerned Minister Choudhary Lal Singh towards the far flung peoples; there are many other services available in the hospital but not operational. "Focus of the ministers and administration is to place orders for new machinery and extract commission but never bother about to repaired already machine exists", they alleged.
Director Health Services Jammu, BS Pathina when contacted said, "I am on leave, can't comment on your query".
