Years on, several KGBVs far from completion in J&K | | | Arun Singh
Jammu, July 12: Work on several Kasturaba Gandhi Balika Vidalyas (KGBVs) across J&K is going at a snail's peace for many years, reflecting the apathetic attitude of the School Education Department. The work on KGBVs at Chenani, Bagwa and Doda was facing inordinate delay. Later, in view of the slow progress of the work, the projects were given to some other executing agencies without tendering and other formalities. "After facing humiliation and reprimand from the state as well as Centre government, the projects were handed over to Road and Building (R&B) Department and J&K Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC)," said sources. Similarly, many projects in Kupwara district of north Kashmir are still incomplete, even as the deadline was missed long back. Sources said that besides the inordinate delay in completion of projects, several other violations were found in the functioning of KGBVs. "Violating the guidelines, girls belonging to the BPL families were enrolled, instead of those from the SC background in KGBVs," said sources. Also, KGBV sanctioned for village Nai Dangri is functioning in Doda city. "As per norms the school should be opened in remote villages, not in urban areas. At many places concerned department failed to get hired accommodation for KGBVs," said sources. Admitting the violation of rules, officials of the School Education Department said that new admissions would be provided as per guidelines. |
