S.Tahir-Ul Haq Early Times Report KUPWARA, July 12: Army has foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Kupwara district, killing three militants. A senior police official told Early Times that army's 26 Mountain Brigade spotted a group of 6-8 militants who had infiltrated into this side of the LoC near Ustad post in Keran sector on Saturday night. "The intruders were challenged, leading to a gunfight," he said. The gunbattle continued for couple of hours after which three dead bodies of the militants were recovered during searches on Sundaymorning, said the official, adding that five other militants have fled from the area. The official said search operation of the dense forests and the adjoining areas was undertaken to nab the militants. "We have also recovered three AK rifles, 12 magazines, 300 rounds, two UBGL grenades and other war-like stores from the spot.," he said. Infiltration of militants along the LoC in Kashmir valley has increased over the past few weeks as snow along the high mountain passes has started melting. The army has foiled six infiltration bids in Kashmir this year so far, and 15 militants and four soldiers died in gunfights along the LoC. Three infiltration bids were foiled in Tangdhar sector only on May 25, May 31 and June 6. Meanwhile, an army spokesperson said Lt General Subratra Saha, GOC Chinar Corps, has commended the "bravery efforts of the soldiers for their vigilant movement due to which three militants were neutralized." |
