PM to lead State BJP in paying homage to Congress stalwart | | | Kunal Shrivatsa
JAMMU, July 12: It is ironical that decades after, State BJP continues to idolize a Congress stalwart, who was bitterly opposed to several vital issue in its political ideology. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to lead the BJP rank and file to pay homage to this leader of Jammu on his birth centenary function. Girdhari Lal Dogra Memorial Charitable Trust is organizing a programme on July 17 at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu which is being attended by none other than the Prime Minister Narendra Modi besides Dogra's son-in-law and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who has attended similar functions related to his late father-in-law held here in the past. Isn't it ironical that the BJP has to rely and borrow the legacy of that Congress, which has been opposed tooth and nail by the saffron party right from its inception in 1951 in its earlier "Avtaar" in the form of Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS), commonly known as Jan Sangh which spearheaded the agitation for "Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan and Ek Nishan" under the leadership of Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Pandit Prem Nath Dogra. BJP leadership instead of making concerted and honest efforts in making realize the dream of abolishing separate constitution and separate flag for J&K is scheduled to make a beeline on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dogra, who was a bitter opponent of the very idea of "Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan and Ek Nishan" conceptualized and pursued vigoursly by the likes of Syama Prasad Mookerji and Pandit Prem Nath Dogra, who inspire thousands to jump into the movement for abolishing the 'special provisions' for J&K envisaged by the then central government after the state acceded to the Union of India on October 26, 1947. It should be remembered by the BJP leadership that it was the same Girdhari Lal Dogra, who was a Minister as a National Conference nominee in 1953 when two martyrs from his hometown Hiranagar laid down their lives in the Praja Parishad movement for "Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan and Ek Nishan" which was held under the leadership of former president of Jan Sangh, Pandit Prem Nath Dogra, popularly known as "Sher-e-Jammu". It may be mentioned here that Girdhari Lal Dogra was a member of National Conference and he become a Congress man only after the former merged with the latter in 1964. How can the BJP leadership forget that the cause of abolishing separate constitution and separate flag, for which the two martyrs namely Bhikam Singh and Behari Lal of Hiranagar sacrificed their lives in the prime of their youth, still remains to be accomplished? |
